A Bit of Bobbi Brown

Hi guys,

So, I recently went shopping for some new makeup, what a shock haha. But in all seriousness, finding the right base and sculpting products is so hard, because you need the right formulation, coverage, and probably the hardest box for me to tick - accurate colour matching. I find it particularly hard to get the right foundation and product match because of my skin tone. I have naturally tanned skin, which means a lot of products either make me look like a tomato...or an orange, which isn't really what anyone wants. Not only that, but finding the right type of base to match your skin type - for example, mine is oil/combination skin, so I need something that isn't going to highlight my already shiny, oily T-zone!

I could go on for ages about finding the right makeup for your skin, but for right now, I want to focus my attention towards this one brand - Bobbi Brown. I've had people telling me to try this brand for ages, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to get to it!

I went shopping knowing exactly what makeup I needed to get, and I tried out several different brands before arriving here. The other brands weren't bad...it's just I didn't feel I had quite found the perfect match and glow.

Arriving at Bobbi Brown, we were immediately greeted by one of their friendly artists...I just need to take a moment to say how fantastic their customer service was! I'm quite fussy when I'm trying something new, and I need to know that the person selling it to me is passionate about it, and knows exactly what they are doing. The number of times I've been to makeup stands and the customer service has been so terrible that I can't even buy from them is ridiculous! When buying your makeup, part of what you're paying for is the experience, and I don't want to pay for something I'm not confident in, or hasn't been correctly tried out on me! So a big thank you to the reps at Bobbi Brown, for being super friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about their products.

So what did I actually get done? Well, all of my base makeup was taken off using their removers, followed by a cleanser, toner, moisturiser and a primer, really prepping my skin for application. The woman tried something on me that I had never used before, and that was a colour corrector. I'm so glad I've been told how to use this, because the results were fantastic and my under eyes were so bright and alive! So, for their base products all I can say is - fantastic. Their foundation is one you can wear alone, it's full coverage, yet really light on the skin. Then, comes their concealer, which I honestly have to say may be one of the best I've ever had. It's quite thick, which means a little goes a long way, and the blending ability is incredible. I'm normally one to follow my routine with a pressed powder, but the lady showed me something different  - a sort of bouncy powder*!? You need the tiniest amount, just to set your base in place, and again, it's incredibly light on the skin. For my sculpting products, again I was shown something I've never really used before - a cream bronzer. I've never tried cream sculpting sticks, because I just thought they wouldn't blend nicely and naturally, but I was very wrong! This bronzer gave me the perfect glow, balancing out my skin tone around my face and neck, without looking over powering. Lastly, their blush and highlight are great for creating a healthy glow. I sometimes find that these sorts of products, if in the wrong shade for you, can make you look too over done or uneven, but the end result was so light, and healthy looking, that I was very impressed!

Another thing I noted, was there choice of brushes. The bristles were so soft and they had the right density for their functions. Particularly, the foundation and concealer brushes, as they didn't soak up the product or leave any streaks on my face!

Well, that just about sums up my most recent brand obsession. If you like a full coverage face, but still want to have a healthy natural glow, then these sorts of products are definitely for you!
